Bias and politics
We’re getting philosophical this week.
In Australia, we have an election coming up.
During times like these, we can sometimes struggle to tolerate beliefs that are ‘different’ from our own — and we might judge someone, and our relationship with them, simply based on who they vote for.
We might also assume that those who vote for a party we deem as ‘incompetent’ are people to be avoided or treated differently from those who vote like us.
Favouring those who vote like us is arguably a form of bias.
Our question for you this week is: Is this form of bias okay? Is it less problematic than other forms of prejudice?
This isn’t about the beliefs you hold about the political candidates, their parties, or their policies.
Rather, it’s about how you view those who vote differently from you.
